So the realistic route depends entirely on which one you picked: a five-minute walk from a central station, or U-Bahn plus a tram, or a Nightline bus that goes directly. Work the last leg out before you leave, not on the pavement afterwards.
Taxis: Convenient, and the Only Real Trap
A taxi solves the last-leg problem completely, and it is the one part of this evening where someone else’s financial interest can quietly replace your own decision.

Driving and Parking: Better Than You Expect
Vienna has a city-wide short-stay parking zone. Paid parking applies on public street spaces Monday to Friday, from nine in the morning until ten at night, with a maximum of two hours on a parking voucher or the mobile parking app.
Read that once more, because it is the useful part: after ten at night on weekdays, and at weekends, street parking in Vienna is generally free and untimed. Designated shopping streets can have their own hours, so check the sign on the street you actually park in, but for most of a Friday or Saturday evening the two-hour limit that worries visitors simply does not apply.
The obvious caveat is the obvious one. If you are drinking, the car stops being an option the moment you order, and Austria’s limits are stricter than many visitors assume.
Arriving: Timing Matters More Than the Route
An arrival at nine on a weekday is a different venue from an arrival at one on a Saturday, in atmosphere, in crowd and in how much attention a newcomer gets.
